My Journey to Pubcon Las Vegas 2019 – Day 2

by

SEO / October 08, 2019

The second day at the Pubcon starts with a keynote by Gary Illyes, search trends analyst at Google. It’s always a good sign when “big tech” officials are involved in these types of events, it shows that they care about the search community.

A pretty impressive statistic at first, but when you put things in perspective and understand that almost half of the world wide web is spam, it’s not as impressive.

Followed by an SEO performance & tracking session given by Michael Stebbins from OMCP and Jennifer Hoffman from Deepcrawl.

If it wasn’t clear enough already, regular expressions are THE solution when parsing through lines and lines of data.
In most cases, an SEO plan will change a lot during the course of a mandate. It’s pretty normal, the web itself changes rapidly as well as client’s businesses. A mandate can start with heavy technical work and they switch to a PR mandate and reputation management. As long as actions are correlated to client goals, mandates can changes however they’d like.
Having a webdev background helps me understand what the key struggles can be when a client or an agency works with a developement agency. Marketing teams rarely talk the same language as marketing teams. SEOs are here to translate.
I’ve been waiting for this very moment for a while now. It’s quite rare to have the opportunity to talk 1 to 1 with a veteran such as Dixon Jones, brand Ambassador at Majestic. I was thrilled to learn that we’ve been doing things the right way and that our practice was innovative and following the same trends as in the US.

And I finished the day by attending a business dinner with the OnCrawl as well as Detlef Johnson, a Pubcon veteran and author/contributor at Search Engine Land. Many good SEO discussions and some pep/prep talk for tomorrow’s US Search Awards.
