Achieving a Smooth Transition to Google Analytics 4 and Developing a Tailored Dashboard

Meet Kimpex

Kimpex is a Canadian company that specializes in the distribution of aftermarket parts and access for power sports vehicles, including motorcycles, snowmobiles, and ATVs. They offer a wide range of products from top brands and have a network of dealers across Canada and the United States.

The Challenge

Many users have been experiencing difficulties with features that have been altered in the new Google Analytics 4 (GA4). For instance, the way in which data is handled and processed is now different, and some once familiar metrics are no longer available.

Kimpex’s primary concern was the accuracy and trustworthiness of their data during the migration to GA4. Missing events, unassigned traffic, and “not set” field values are just a few examples of the unknowns Kimpex was facing.

The Solution

To address the problem of un-trackable data, we built a tracking plan from scratch, catering to Kimpex’s specific business’ micro & macro conversion goals.

What we did:

  • Use clear documentation to help Kimpex understand how tracking is set up and how goals relate to on-site actions.
  • Implement clear naming conventions to their tracking codes in Google Tag Manager.
  • Provide extensive Google Analytics 4 training to help Kimpex get familiar with the new platform and how to access their data.
  • Set up Kimpex with Eulerian, a data management and marketing attribution platform, for sophisticated attribution model comparison.
  • Rebuild their Google Looker Studio (previously Google Data Studio) dashboard using an ETL process to overcome the Google Analytics 4 API quota.
  • Implement the Facebook Conversion API for more accurate data collection.





The Result: Increased Data Accuracy and Productivity

Kimpex’s Google Analytics 4 is fully functioning and set up far before July 2023, which will allow their team to familiarize themselves and to learn to navigate the new features of the platform before the transition date.

They are able to access reliable, accurate e-commerce data with clear documentation on their tracking setup.

  • In fact, Kimpex has reduced its margin of error by 83%, preventing misinterpretation of numbers and investments.
  • In three months, their data reliability rate increased from 70% to 95%.

Kimpex also has a complete performance measurement solution through its Looker Studio dashboard and Facebook Conversion API. Because of this new dashboard, Kimpex employees have gained productivity.

  • Prior to the introduction of their new dashboard, only two individuals utilized the previous one. Now, six people look at it frequently.
  • The main user estimates that they have gained 10 hours a month in productivity, and the other five have seen an overall efficiency gain of 10 hours.
